How to Hang Your Ironform Piece
Your Ironform Studios piece is built to hang cleanly and stay there. Follow this guide for a professional result every time.
What You'll Need
- Pencil
- Tape measure or ruler
- Spirit level (or the level app on your phone)
- Power drill or hammer
- Wall plugs (included with your order for masonry walls)
- Screws (included)
Step 1 — Find Your Wall Studs (for larger pieces)
For mirrors and larger prints over 3kg, always anchor into wall studs or use appropriate wall plugs for your wall type. Use a stud finder or knock along the wall — a solid sound indicates a stud.
Step 2 — Mark Your Position
Hold your piece against the wall and use a pencil to lightly mark the top-centre position. Use a tape measure to ensure it's centred on your wall or within your chosen space. For a gallery wall arrangement, cut paper templates the same size as each piece and use painter's tape to trial the layout before drilling.
Step 3 — Check It's Level
Use a spirit level across the top of your marked position. A slightly off-level hang is one of the most common mistakes — take 30 seconds to check before you drill.
Step 4 — Drill and Fix
For plasterboard walls: drill a pilot hole and insert the included wall plug before screwing in. For timber or masonry: drill directly into the stud or use a masonry bit with wall plug. Use the screw depth appropriate for your wall — typically 30–40mm into the wall surface.
Step 5 — Hang and Adjust
Hook or slot your piece onto the fixed hanging point. Step back and check alignment from a distance — small adjustments can be made by shifting the wire or D-ring along the hanging point.
Wall Type Guide
- Plasterboard / Drywall — use the included wall plugs and screws. Always try to hit a stud for heavier pieces.
- Brick or Concrete — use a masonry drill bit and the included masonry plugs.
- Timber walls / Panelling — screw directly into the timber with the included screws.
- Tiles — use a diamond-tipped tile drill bit. Drill slowly with low pressure to avoid cracking.
Gallery Wall Tips
- Keep consistent spacing between pieces — 8–10cm gaps look intentional and clean
- Hang the largest or heaviest piece first as your anchor point
- Mix sizes but keep a consistent visual weight across the arrangement
- Odd numbers of pieces (3, 5) tend to look more natural than even numbers
